133rd National Librarians’ Day Celebrated at KITS Warangal
Warangal, August 12: The Central Library of Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science, Warangal (KITSW) marked the 133rd birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, known as the father of library science in India, by observing National Librarians’ Day on Monday.
Dr. Ranganathan (1892–1972) was a mathematics lecturer in Chennai before dedicating his life to the development of library services in the country.
The programme began with a floral tribute to Dr. Ranganathan, led by Dean Academic Affairs and Registrar Prof. M. Komal Reddy.
Speaking on the occasion, Dean Academic Affairs Prof. K. Venumdhav described libraries as centres of learning that encourage reading habits. He stressed the importance of librarians in promoting academic growth and called upon library professionals to adopt the latest digital and ICT tools to serve users better.
Registrar Prof. M. Komal Reddy spoke about the changing role of librarians in the digital age and outlined initiatives such as digital resources, workshops, and reading programs to enhance students’ learning.
Librarian Dr. K. Indrasena Reddy, in his welcome address, said that as per Dr. Ranganathan’s vision, a librarian is not merely a custodian of books but a facilitator of knowledge creation and information sharing, working at intellectual, administrative, and social levels.
The event was attended by all deans, heads of departments, library staff, Prof. B. Ramadevi (Library Committee Chairperson), Prof. V. Rajagopal (Controller of Examinations), US Balraj (IDC Coordinator), Dr. Prabhakara Chary (Associate Professor of Chemistry & PRO), faculty members, and staff.
