Nehru Zoological Park Receives ISO 9001:2015 Certification

Minister Konda Surekha Presents Certificate to Zoo Curator Vasantha

Hyderabad:
Hyderabad’s Nehru Zoological Park has received the ISO 9001:2015 certification. The certificate was formally presented to Zoo Curator Vasantha by State Forest, Environment and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha at the Telangana Secretariat on Tuesday.

Zoo Chief Officer Vasantha informed the Minister that Nehru Zoological Park has achieved a rare distinction by being the first zoo in the country to receive ISO 9001:2015 certification for six consecutive years. She explained that the certification ensures high-quality management standards, consistent service delivery, efficient internal operations, animal care protocols, ticketing and visitor services, emergency response systems, staff training and skill development.

The zoo has also secured the ISO 14001 environmental management certification, which Vasantha described as a significant achievement. This certification confirms that the zoo adheres to internationally recognised environmental management practices, including waste reduction, controlled energy and water usage, carbon footprint management, habitat maintenance, pollution control and sustainable resource use.

In addition, Hyderabad Zoo has been awarded a 5-Star Rating, one of the highest recognitions for any zoological park. The rating reflects the zoo’s adoption of global best practices in animal welfare, species-appropriate enclosures, high-quality nutrition, veterinary care and sanitation standards.

Minister Surekha expressed confidence that these certifications will position Nehru Zoological Park as a benchmark institution for other zoos across the country. She noted that this recognition strengthens public trust and enhances opportunities for CSR support, international collaborations and conservation projects.

Established on October 6, 1963, the Nehru Zoological Park has rapidly grown into one of India’s largest and most visited zoos, attracting over three million visitors annually, officials informed the Minister.
