Kakkerla ShivaKumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering (AIML-Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning- CSM) at Kakatiya Institute of Technology and Science, Warangal (KITSW), has been awarded a Ph.D degree by Osmania University, Hyderabad announced by the Principal, Prof. K. Ashoka Reddy.
In a press note released, KITSW Principal Prof. K. Ashoka Reddy told that K. Shivakumar had submitted his Ph.D. thesis titled “Fundus Image Segmentation and Classification for Diagnosis of Diabetic Retinopathy using Deep Neural Networks “. He did his research work under the supervision of Dr. B. Sandhya, Professor, Department of CSE, MVSR Engineering College, Hyderabad.
K. Shivakumar has developed a comprehensive deep learning framework for the segmentation and classification of diabetic retinopathy (DR) using retinal fundus images. His research focuses on accurately identifying and characterizing DR-affected regions, addressing challenges related to lesion variability in size, shape, and appearance. The proposed methodology demonstrated enhanced detection of abnormalities such as hard and soft exudates and hemorrhages, leading to improved disease staging. By integrating robust segmentation and classification techniques, his work contributes significantly to early and reliable DR diagnosis, supporting more effective clinical decision-making.
In this regard, the Former Rajya Sabha Member and KITSW Chairman Capt. V. Lakshmikantha Rao, Treasurer,P. Narayana Reddy & former MLA Husnabad constituency & KITSW Additional secretary, Vodithala Satish Kumar & the Principal Prof. K.
