In a collaborative effort between the Department of Civil Engineering (CE) at Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science Warangal (KITSW) and the Institution of Engineers (India) Warangal, a seminar titled "Water for Peace" was organized at the Silver Jubilee Seminar Hall on the KITS Warangal campus. The event, held on the occasion of World Water Day, was chaired by Principal Prof. K. Ashoka Reddy.


The distinguished guest speaker, Professor N. V. Umamahesh from NIT Warangal's Department of CE, shed light on sustainable development goals, emphasizing sustainable water management and integrated river management.


Highlighting the critical role of water in sustaining life, Professor Umamahesh stressed the importance of employing the best engineering practices for the benefit of society. He underscored the intrinsic connection between water and peace, citing statistics that projected a significant increase in municipal water usage by 2050, alongside alarming stress levels on water resources faced by a significant portion of the Indian population.


Emphasizing the principles of sustainable development, Professor Umamahesh advocated for an integrated approach encompassing environmental preservation, economic development, governance, and social welfare.


In his concluding remarks, he emphasized the need for equitable distribution of water resources, ensuring access to safe drinking water, and preserving water bodies and the environment for future generations.


Principal Prof. K. Ashoka Reddy lauded the informative and interactive nature of the session, noting active participation from students and fruitful discussions on sustainable development techniques.


Former MP, Rajya Sabha, and Chairman of KITSW, Capt. V. Lakshmikantha Rao, along with Treasurer  P. Narayana Reddy and Additional Secretary & former Husnabad MLA Vodithala Sateesh Kumar, commended the Department of Civil Engineering for the successful organization of the technical seminar.


The event saw the presence of various dignitaries including Dean of Academic Affairs Prof. K. Venumadhav, Associate Professor Dr. D. Hari Krishna, Chairman of IE(I) WLC Prof. A. Ramachandra Reddy, and others, along with faculty, staff, and approximately 200 students.
