NASA Space Apps Hackathon Begins at KITS Warangal

The NASA Space Apps Challenge Hackathon kicked off at Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science (KITS) in Warangal, aiming to engage students in space technology and inspire the next generation of aerospace scientists. The event is part of a broader effort to raise awareness about the innovative opportunities in the fields of space technology and aerospace, encouraging students to find solutions to global challenges.

The 24-hour hackathon, which began at 10 a.m., features participation from 120 students divided into 24 groups. The event coincides with India’s celebration of National Space Day, following the success of Chandrayaan-3, and highlights the growing interest in space exploration among engineering students.

Participants are tasked with developing creative solutions to important issues in space research, with the winners earning the chance to compete in the National Hackathon at Chandigarh University. The event is seen as an important step in educating students about the opportunities in space research and training them to become future space scientists

The hackathon is organized at KITS' Center for Innovation, Incubation, and Research in Engineering (C-i2RE), in collaboration with SUMVN, a space technology startup. The event was inaugurated by KITS Principal
K. Ashoka Reddy, with other notable attendees including Dr. K. Raja Narender Reddy, Dr. V. Raju Reddy, and representatives from SUMVN and FoundersLab.

Students presented research and projects in various areas related to space research, including web applications, gaming, data science, IoT technology, and robotics. The event is expected to help prepare engineering students to tackle future challenges in aerospace, starting from their college years.
