Warangal: The Department of Physical Education at Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science Warangal inaugurated the two-day Professional-Collegiate sports tournament “KITS Trophy-2026” for men and women on Saturday at the play fields of the KITS Warangal campus.
The tournament, scheduled for March 14 and 15, was inaugurated by the Principal, Prof. K. Ashoka Reddy, who attended as the chief guest. The event is being organised with the support of the KITS sports alumni.
Former Rajya Sabha MP and KITS Chairman V. Lakshmikantha Rao, KITS Treasurer P. Narayana Reddy and former Husnabad MLA and KITS Additional Secretary Vodithala Sathish Kumar appreciated the Department of Physical Education for organising the tournament and extended their best wishes to the participating players.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ashoka Reddy said sports play an important role in building friendship, brotherhood and mutual trust among students. He emphasised that games and sports are as important as academics for students of professional courses such as engineering and medicine. Participation in sports, he noted, helps students achieve holistic development while enhancing creativity, innovative thinking, problem-solving abilities, memory and social skills.
He also remarked that technological advancement does not reduce employment opportunities but rather enhances employability. Determination, commitment and sound decision-making, he added, are key factors in achieving success.
Administrative Officer Prof. P. Ramesh Reddy said the tournament aims to identify hidden talent among students and boost their confidence and sporting spirit. More than 800 students from 17 professional colleges across the combined districts of Warangal and Karimnagar are participating in the event.
The tournament features six sporting events including basketball, badminton, volleyball, kabaddi, table tennis and football.
Head of the Department of Physical Education Dr. M. Srinivas Reddy, Associate Professor of Chemistry and PRO Dr. D. Prabhakara Chary, along with deans, department heads, faculty members, staff and sports alumni of KITS Warangal attended the inaugural programme.
