Warangal, August 5: The Literary and Extramural Club of Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science, Warangal (KITSW), in association with the Swami Vivekananda Birth Anniversary Celebrations (SVBC) Club, organized essay writing and elocution competitions under the People’s Education Programme of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
KITSW Principal Prof. K. Ashoka Reddy said the programme was conducted to create awareness among students about khadi, rural entrepreneurship, Gandhian values, self-reliance, and employment opportunities in village industries. A total of 155 students from different departments participated in the competitions.
MLC and Chairperson Surabhi Vanidevi, who attended as the chief guest, spoke about the role of the Vavilala Khadi Gramodyoga Mission in promoting khadi and village industries.
Guest of honour Dr. Lanka Manoj, Director, KVIC Telangana, encouraged students to wear khadi at least once a week. He also spoke about opportunities in small-scale industries and explained initiatives related to pottery, biodegradable products, foodware, honey processing, tamarind processing, turmeric powder production, and mineral-based industries.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Prof. Ashoka Reddy said KITSW has introduced a new B.Tech programme in ECV – VLSI (Design and Technology) in line with the Central Government’s semiconductor policy. He added that the institute is also focusing on startup and entrepreneurship skills to improve students’ career opportunities.
KITSW Vice President and Secretary of Vavilala Khadi Gramodyoga Pratishthan Vodithala Kishan Rao presided over the programme. He encouraged students to explore opportunities in traditional sectors along with the software industry and explained the support available for khadi-based projects under the MSME SFURTI scheme.
Assistant Director, NAC G. Ramesh, Senior Executive Administrator, KVIC N. Lathadevi, KITSW Registrar Prof. M. Komal Reddy, Administrative Officer Prof. P. Ramesh Reddy, Dean of Student Affairs Prof. K. Sridhar, faculty coordinators, department heads, faculty members, student organisers, and about 180 students attended the programme.
