Warangal, June 12, 2024: Naliganti Santosh Kumar, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Kakatiya Institute of Technology and Science, Warangal (KITSW), has been awarded a Ph.D. by GITAM University, Visakhapatnam.

KITSW Principal Prof. K. Ashoka Reddy announced the achievement in a press release on Wednesday. Kumar's doctoral thesis, titled “Blood Vessel Segmentation from Diabetic Retinopathy Fundus Images Using Singular Value Decomposition and Maximum Principal Curvature,” was completed under the supervision of Dr. Yalavarthi Radhika, a professor at GITAM University.

The research addresses the early detection of Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), a diabetes complication that can lead to vision loss. Kumar's work focuses on improving the segmentation of retinal images, aiding ophthalmologists in diagnosing DR more effectively. This significant contribution aims to reduce the risk of blindness among diabetic patients. Throughout his research, Kumar has published several papers in reputable international journals.

Former Rajya Sabha MP and KITSW Chairman Capt. V. Lakshmikantha Rao, Treasurer Sir P. Narayana Reddy, Former MLA and KITSW Additional Secretary Shri Vodithala Sateesh Kumar, and Principal Prof. K. Ashoka Reddy commended Kumar for his impactful research in Biomedical Image Processing.

Additionally, congratulations poured in from Professor and Head of the CSE Department Dr. P. Niranjan, Registrar Prof. M. Komal Reddy, Associate Professor of ECE Dr. K. Ramudu, and various deans, heads, faculty, and staff members of KITSW, including Head of PSD and PRO Dr. D. Prabhakara Chary.
