Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari informed that services of the GHMC Disaster Response Teams will be extended up to Hyderabad ORR to deal effectively with heavy rains and other calamities and avoid any kind of trouble to the citizens. Recently, the Chief Minister has issued instructions to set up a proper system to prevent any kind of trouble to the people in case of sudden rains and floods up to the outer ring road of Hyderabad city.  Accordingly a special meeting was held today at the Secretariat today.  

Chief Secretary stated that the Disaster Response Department of GHMC is being strengthened by providing additional staff and appropriate machinery to deal with disasters.  30 DRF teams are at present working under the jurisdiction of GHMC.  15 more teams will be added and their services will be extended to ORR. As there are a large number of pharma companies in Hyderabad, CS suggested that special teams with special training for chemical fire prevention should be formed. 

She said that GHMC officials should take measures in coordination with the relevant departments such as Municipal, Police, Electricity, water board etc and see that people are not put to any hardships.  Apart from Hyderabad, DRF teams should be formed in Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam and other cities and the existing DRF teams should be strengthened. The officials were advised to work in coordination with the NDRF during calamities. She also directed to study the performance of disaster response teams in the major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore.

Municipal Department Principal Secretary Danakishore, GHMC In-charge Commissioner Amrapali, GHMC EVDM Director Prakash Reddy and others attended the meeting.
