Unlicensed Cough Syrup Manufacturing Unit Busted in Telangana

Telangana's Drugs Control Administration (DCA) recently uncovered an unlicensed operation manufacturing "Glycoril Cough Syrup" at a facility run by Akhil Life Sciences in Prashanth Nagar, Kukatpally, Medchal-Malkajgiri district. During a raid, officials seized 635 bottles of the syrup worth ₹65,000.

The investigation revealed that Akhil Life Sciences was producing "Glycoril Cough Syrup" (containing Terbutaline Sulphate, Ambroxol HCl, Guaiphenesin, and Menthol) without the required drug manufacturing license, which violates the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The manufacturing process of such drugs must follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and meet the quality standards set by the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP).

The raid, led by Drugs Inspectors  M. Sreebindu and N. Sahaja, resulted in the confiscation of both the syrup bottles and printed labels found at the site. Samples of the seized drugs were collected for further analysis. The case is currently under investigation, and legal action will be taken against those involved.

Producing and distributing drugs without proper licensing is a serious offense under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, which can result in imprisonment of up to five years. Authorities urge the public to report any suspected illegal drug manufacturing activities through the DCA's toll-free number.

For more details or to report such activities, the public can contact the DCA at 1800-599-6969.
