Government Announces Stringent Measures to Safeguard Consumers from Misleading Advertisements

Hyderabad, April 1, 2025: In a significant move to protect consumer rights, the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) has announced a series of strict measures aimed at curbing misleading advertisements across various platforms. The initiative seeks to ensure transparency in marketing and prevent deceptive claims that misguide consumers.
According to Drugs Control DIRECTOR GENERAL V.B. KAMALASAN REDDY, IPS,
Telangana, the new regulations will mandate advertisers to provide clear, evidence-backed claims for their products and services. Companies found violating these guidelines will face hefty penalties, including financial sanctions and possible legal actions. The move comes in response to a growing number of complaints regarding false endorsements and exaggerated product benefits.

The DCA emphasized the government’s commitment to consumer protection, stating, "This initiative is a step towards ensuring that consumers are not misled by deceptive advertising. We aim to establish a fair marketplace where individuals can make informed purchasing decisions based on accurate information."
The regulations also extend to social media influencers and celebrities, who are now required to disclose any financial ties with brands they endorse. This measure aims to enhance transparency and accountability, preventing consumers from being swayed by undisclosed paid promotions.
Consumer rights groups have welcomed the decision, viewing it as a crucial step in tackling fraudulent marketing practices. "For too long, misleading advertisements have manipulated consumer perception. These measures will go a long way in promoting honest advertising," he said.
The DCA has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any misleading advertisements through designated channels.
