Hyderabad, April 25: A total of 47 Maoists surrendered before Telangana Police in the presence of Director General of Police Shivadhar Reddy on Saturday.
The surrendered cadres handed over 32 firearms along with 515 rounds of ammunition of different calibres to the police.
Among those who surrendered are key leaders including Hemla Ittu alias Vijja, a member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) and in-charge of the South Bastar Divisional Committee, and Podiyam Lachu alias Manoj, a Divisional Committee Member and commander of the 9th platoon.
Weapons Surrendered
The weapons submitted include:
• 1 LMG
• 4 AK-47 rifles
• 3 SLR rifles
• 2 INSAS rifles
• 2 .410 musket rifles
• 1 8mm rifle
• 12 single-shot guns
• 1 9mm pistol
• 1 revolver
• 2 BGL guns
• 2 air guns
• 1 SBBL gun
Police officials stated that with the surrender of key leaders, including the secretary of the South Bastar Divisional Committee, the division has been weakened significantly.

• 9th & 30th Platoons (South Bastar DVC): 15 members
Total: 47 members
Officials said four Maoists from Telangana are still absconding and appealed to them to surrender.

Police urged them to join the mainstream and take benefit of the Telangana government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy.
Officials added that in the last two years, 818 Maoists have surrendered before Telangana Police, and 334 weapons have been seized.
