Baltimore (Maryland), August 1: Dr. Satheesh Kathula, a hematologist and oncologist of Indian origin, received the Excellence in Medicine Award at the American Telugu Association (ATA) Annual Convention held in Baltimore, Maryland.
The award was presented in recognition of his contributions to cancer treatment, medical education, public health, and patient care.
Dr. Satheesh has more than 20 years of experience in treating lung, gastrointestinal, and blood cancers. He graduated from Siddhartha Medical College and completed his residency and fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Wright State University. He currently serves as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the university.
He is board certified in Hematology and Medical Oncology and is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine. In addition, he has completed executive education programs in Global Healthcare Leadership at Harvard Medical School and Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare at Stanford University.
During his tenure as President of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) for 2024–2025, Dr. Satheesh led initiatives related to medical education, cancer prevention, public health awareness, physician engagement, and community outreach. He also organized the 2024 AAPI Global Healthcare Summit in New Delhi, bringing together healthcare professionals and policymakers from different countries.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Satheesh received the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2018 Man of the Year recognition and the U.S. Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for volunteer service.
Speaking after receiving the award, Dr. Satheesh dedicated the recognition to physicians, nurses, healthcare professionals, and caregivers around the world. He said the award belongs to everyone who works to provide compassionate and quality care to patients.
He also thanked ATA President Jayanth Challa, Santosh Reddy, and Prasad Akula for the recognition and appreciated the American Telugu Association for encouraging excellence in medicine, leadership, and community service.
The ATA Annual Convention brings together professionals, community leaders, entrepreneurs, artists, and physicians from North America and India to promote cultural, educational, and professional collaboration.
