**Congress Government to Ensure Efficient Use of Public Funds for Kaleshwaram Project**

Kaleshwaram, June 7: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasized the Congress Government's commitment to efficient irrigation and strict accountability for public funds. After inspecting the Sundilla, Annaram, and Medigadda barrages, Reddy highlighted that the government's top priority is ensuring every rupee spent on irrigation yields positive results.

"We will prioritize projects that can bring maximum new ayacut under cultivation with the least expenditure and shortest time," Reddy stated. He assured that no misappropriation or misuse of funds in the name of the Kaleshwaram project would be tolerated.

Accompanied by Engineer-in-Chief Anil Kumar and senior officials, Reddy reviewed the status of ongoing repairs at the barrages. The officials briefed him on the damages and repair progress, emphasizing that integrated testing and round-the-clock work were in progress to ensure safety and efficiency.

The Congress Government has initiated a vigilance inquiry and a judicial commission, led by a retired Supreme Court judge, to investigate the financial discrepancies and hold those responsible accountable. Reddy mentioned that senior officials, including the Kaleshwaram ENC, have already faced dismissal due to these issues.

Reddy criticized the previous regime for the project's shortcomings, stating that despite a massive investment of Rs 94,000 crore, the Kaleshwaram project had become a non-usable liability. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to reviving the project based on recommendations from the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA).

In a comprehensive review meeting with various stakeholders, including officials from L&T, Afcons, Navayuga, and other departments, Reddy directed that all repairs be expedited to protect public money and restore the functionality of the barrages. He noted that the government sought expert advice for both short-term and long-term solutions to ensure the project's sustainability and efficiency.
