In a significant crackdown, the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana has seized certain Ayurvedic medicines over misleading advertisements. This operation was carried out under the provisions of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, which prohibits the advertisement of certain drugs for treating specific diseases and disorders.

#### Seizure of Ayurvedic Medicines in Vikarabad and Secunderabad

On June 22, DCA officials identified and confiscated Diofil Capsules and Kalmegh Powder, which were being marketed with unverified claims of treating diabetes and fever, respectively.

- **Diofil Capsules**: Manufactured by Zee Laboratories Ltd., these capsules were seized from a medical shop in Parigi, Vikarabad District. The product label misleadingly claimed that the capsules could treat diabetes.
- **Kalmegh Powder**: Produced by Vinayaka Herbals Ayurvedic Pharmacy, this product was seized from a shop in Tarnaka, Secunderabad, for falsely claiming to treat fever.

The raids were conducted by Smt. D. Saritha, Assistant Director, Secunderabad, along with Drugs Inspectors Sri. B. Govind Singh, Sri. A.N. Kranthi Kumar, Smt. P. Renuka, and Sri. M. Surendranath. Further investigations are underway to take legal action against the offenders.

#### Raid on a Quack’s Clinic in Adilabad District

In a separate incident, DCA officials raided a clinic operated by an unqualified practitioner, G. Vaikuntam, in Dasnapur Village, Adilabad District. The quack, claiming to be a "Rural Medical Practitioner," was found stocking a variety of medicines without a valid drug license.

The raid resulted in the seizure of 26 types of medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, analgesics, and anti-ulcer drugs, worth Rs. 20,000. DCA officials highlighted the dangers posed by unqualified individuals selling potent drugs, particularly the risk of antimicrobial resistance and the misuse of steroids.

The operation was led by Smt. A. Srilatha, Drugs Inspector, Adilabad, and Sri. M. Shyam Sunder, Drugs Inspector, Nirmal. Samples of the seized drugs have been sent for analysis, and further legal action is pending.

Public Advisory and Legal Consequences

The DCA has intensified surprise checks and urged the public to report illegal activities related to medicines. Under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, stocking and selling medicines without a license can result in imprisonment for up to five years.

Complaints can be reported to the DCA through their toll-free number 1800-599-6969, operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
