Warangal, June 23, 2024:The Warangal District Badminton Tournament 2024 was officially inaugurated today at the Indoor Stadium, Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science (KITS), Warangal. The event, organized by the Warangal District Badminton Association (WDBA) in affiliation with the Badminton Association of Telangana (BAT), spans from June 23 to June 25 and includes competitions for boys, girls, men, and women across various age categories.

Dr. P. Ramesh Reddy, Vice President of BAT, General Secretary of WDBA, and Administrative Officer of KITS Warangal, announced the commencement of the tournament. The chief guest, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Hyderabad, P. Shobhan Kumar, officially inaugurated the event.

In his speech, ASP P. Shobhan Kumar emphasized the health benefits of badminton, highlighting how the sport promotes cardiovascular health, reduces cholesterol, and boosts muscle strength. He praised Warangal for its rich sports culture and encouraged players to draw inspiration from badminton star PV Sindhu to achieve success. He stressed the importance of self-esteem, hard work, determination, and dedication in achieving excellence.

Prof. P. Ramesh Reddy outlined that the tournament features 26 different events over the three-day period. The winners will advance to the state championships held across Telangana. The competitions are categorized for Under-11, U-13, U-15, U-17, and U-19 for both boys and girls, as well as men and women. A total of 130 players from the combined Warangal district are participating.

Notable attendees included WDBA Treasurer D. Nagakishan, Dr. N. Mohan Rao, KITSW Head of Physical Education Dr. M. Srinivas Reddy, National umpires Kommu Rajender, Dr. K. Sridharm, Prof. L. Sudheer Reddy, G. Kishore, K. Hanmantha Rao, Bhaskar, Krishnaveni, and M. Shailaja, as well as Dr. D. Prabhakara Chary, Head of PSD and Associate Professor of Chemistry. Over 230 players, their parents, faculty, and staff were present to support the event.
