Government Meeting Focuses on Eco-Tourism Development

The Government of Telangana convened a key meeting on June 22, 2024, to refine its Eco-Tourism Policy, aiming to boost tourism while protecting forests. Telangana's rich natural landscapes offer immense potential for eco-tourism, promising employment for local communities reliant on forests. Under the guidance of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, a consultative committee was established to develop tourist circuits, as per G.O.Ms.No.14, EFS&T (For.IV) Dept., dated March 14, 2024.

 High-Level Discussions at the Secretariat

Held at the Secretariat in Hyderabad, the meeting was chaired by Honourable Minister for Forests  Konda Surekha Garu. The session saw participation from senior government officials, environmental experts, tourism leaders, and wildlife NGOs.

The meeting's goal was to create a sustainable eco-tourism strategy that balances tourism growth with forest conservation. The policy aims to position Telangana as a leading eco-tourism destination by leveraging its diverse landscapes and rich biodiversity.

 Key Objectives and Initiatives

Minister Smt. Konda Surekha emphasized developing eco-tourism circuits linking wildlife sanctuaries, forests, and natural reserves to offer unique experiences. The policy includes investments in eco-friendly infrastructure, such as sustainable lodging, renewable energy, and green transportation, all compliant with forest and wildlife laws.

Principal Secretary A. Vani Prasad, IAS, stressed involving local communities in eco-tourism projects to ensure economic and social benefits. The plan includes measures to protect wildlife habitats, preserve biodiversity, and promote sustainable tourism practices like waste management and water conservation.

Community Involvement and Sustainable Practices
