Md. Sharfuddin Waseem of KITS Warangal Awarded Ph.D. from NIT Tiruchirappalli

Md. Sharfuddin Waseem, an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department at Kakatiya Institute of Technology and Science (KITS), Warangal, has been awarded a Ph.D. degree by the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli. The announcement was made by the Principal of KITSW, Prof. K. Ashoka Reddy. Waseem received his degree from NIT Tiruchirappalli's Director, Prof. G. These advancements have practical applications in various fields including industrial settings, digital transportation systems, navigation aids for visually impaired individuals, and security surveillance. His algorithms are designed to work efficiently on devices with limited computing power and can handle multilingual, size-invariant, and rotationally-invariant text recognition.

In addition to his Ph.D., Waseem has also led a project funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The project, titled "Automation of Farming Tools for Smart Farming Using Android Application (A Gaming Approach)," received Rs. 40.43 lakhs in funding. As part of this project, Waseem developed a cost-effective kit to make tractors driverless, which can be operated via a mobile application, benefiting farmers.
