Rally and Meeting Held in Warangal and Hanumakonda
Warangal: Lawyers from Warangal and Hanumakonda districts expressed their gratitude to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for the approval of the Advocates Protection and Welfare Bill in the State Legislative Assembly.
Under the leadership of the district bar associations, a rally was conducted on Thursday from the district court premises to the Martyrs’ Memorial.
Later, a meeting was held at the Hanumakonda district court hall.
Speaking at the meeting, Bar Council member Muddasani Sahodar Reddy, along with district bar association presidents Puli Satyanarayana and Valasa Sudheer, said the bill is a significant achievement after years of struggle by lawyers. They described the government’s decision as a historic step towards ensuring the dignity and safety of advocates.
The speakers also thanked the cabinet ministers and legislators who supported the bill. They congratulated all lawyers who continuously fought for this legislation, stating that it reflects the collective efforts of the legal community across Telangana.
Explaining the provisions of the bill, they said that any attack on a lawyer would attract imprisonment ranging from six months to five years and a fine between ₹25,000 and ₹1 lakh. Victims would also be entitled to compensation for personal and property loss. Lawyers facing threats can seek police protection with permission from a magistrate.
The bill also includes welfare measures such as health insurance, accident insurance, and stipends for junior advocates through a corpus fund.
They emphasized that ensuring the safety of lawyers is essential for protecting justice itself.
Several office bearers and members of both bar associations, including vice presidents, secretaries, and practicing advocates, participated in the event.
