London, August 21, 2026: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to the United States has been cancelled after the Ministry of External Affairs denied permission for the trip, citing political clearance.
The Telangana government had sought permission from the Centre for the Chief Minister’s official visits to the UK and the US. While permission was granted for the UK visit, approval for the US trip was denied after the delegation reached London.
Following the decision, Revanth Reddy decided to return to Hyderabad from London on August 23 instead of travelling to Boston and other US cities.
The Chief Minister said the main objective of the proposed US visit was to explore partnerships with leading global educational institutions and bring international education, skills and training opportunities to Telangana.
He said officials accompanying the delegation had been instructed to proceed with the planned US programme and work towards finalising MoUs and partnership agreements with institutions such as Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Northeastern University and Virginia Tech.
Revanth Reddy said political differences should not come in the way of efforts related to education, youth and national development. He said the government wanted to develop Hyderabad as a global knowledge and education hub.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister will continue his scheduled engagements in the UK. He is expected to meet academics and representatives of institutions including Oxford, Cambridge, the London School of Economics, London Business School and the University of London.
He will also hold meetings with sports institutions and organisations involved in skill development to explore partnerships with Telangana.
Revanth Reddy said his government would continue its efforts to bring leading international educational and skills institutions to Hyderabad and provide students in Telangana access to global opportunities.
