132nd National Librarians' Day Celebrated at Central Library, KITS Warangal

Warangal, August 12, 2024:The Central Library at Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science, Warangal (KITSW) marked National Librarians’ Day on August 12, commemorating the 132nd birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the pioneering figure in library science in India.

Dr. Ranganathan, born in 1892, was a distinguished mathematician and an influential librarian whose contributions have shaped the library profession in India. His dedication to the field has left an enduring legacy that continues to inspire librarians across the country.

The celebration was attended by key figures including Prof. K. Venumdhav, Dean of Academic Affairs; Prof. M. Srilatha, Chairperson of the Library Committee; and Dr. K. Indrasena Reddy, the Librarian, along with the entire library staff of KITSW. The event was initiated by Prof. M. Komal Reddy, Dean of Academic Affairs and Registrar, who led the floral tribute to Dr. Ranganathan.



In his address, Prof. K. Venumdhav emphasized the role of libraries as essential centers of learning and knowledge. He underscored the importance of libraries in educational institutions and urged library professionals to embrace modern ICT and digital technologies to better serve users' needs.

Dr. K. Indrasena Reddy, the Librarian, delivered the formal welcome and presidential remarks. He highlighted Dr. Ranganathan’s view that librarians are not mere custodians of books but facilitators of knowledge and communication. Reddy stressed the need for librarians to engage in various roles—intellectual, administrative, political, and social—to effectively support information dissemination and knowledge creation.

The event celebrated the rich legacy of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan and highlighted the ongoing relevance of libraries in advancing education and knowledge.

Principal Ashoka Reddy all the deans, all the heads,  library staff, Registrar Prof. M. Komal Reddy,  Library committee chairwoman Prof. M. Srilatha (EIE department), Controller of Examinations KITSW, Prof. V. Rajagopal, associate professor of chemistry & PRO Dr. D. Prabhakara Chary, faculty and staff were present.
