Governor Leads Telangana in Honoring World Red Cross Day and World Thalassemia Day 2025

Hyderabad, May 8,2025: The Governor of Telangana presided over a special programme held today at Durbar Hall in Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad, to mark World Red Cross Day and World Thalassemia Day 2025. The event brought together healthcare advocates, volunteers, officials, and humanitarian organizations in a collective tribute to compassion and service.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor reflected on the deep meaning behind these global observances, calling them a moral reminder for society to act with kindness, solidarity, and a sense of shared humanity. Highlighting this year’s World Red Cross Day theme, “On the Side of Humanity,” he praised the Indian Red Cross Society’s Telangana State Branch for its consistent humanitarian efforts since its founding in 1920.

He also spoke about the urgent need to encourage volunteerism among all age groups to protect the vulnerable and promote dignity for all. The Indian Red Cross Society in Telangana now has more than forty-five thousand members across all thirty-three districts. Its work spans blood donation drives, medical outreach, aid for orphanages and elder care homes, and relief during natural disasters.

The Governor expressed his gratitude to the district chairpersons and Red Cross volunteers who continue to carry forward the mission of service even in the most remote corners of the state.

As part of the event’s focus on World Thalassemia Day, the Governor paid heartfelt tribute to young thalassemia patients who rely on regular blood transfusions to survive. He applauded the efforts of Dhatri, a nonprofit working to raise awareness and encourage stem cell donation for those affected by the genetic disorder. In a personal gesture, the Governor handed out fruits to patients attending the programme.

A major moment of the day was the official launch of a Blood Stem Cell Donor Registration drive, led by the Governor himself. He appealed to the public to support this life-saving cause by registering as potential stem cell donors.

In response, staff members of Raj Bhavan aged between eighteen and fifty voluntarily provided swab samples and joined the donor registry, showcasing their united commitment to humanitarian service.

The Governor also took the opportunity to honor several Corporate Social Responsibility partners whose ongoing financial contributions have supported the Red Cross’s work in healthcare, disaster response, and community development. He described their role as crucial in connecting resources to urgent social needs.

The event was attended by senior government officials including M. Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary to the Governor, along with leaders of the Indian Red Cross Society Telangana State Branch, district chairpersons, Red Cross officers, and Raj Bhavan staff.
