From Paper Boy to Civil Services: Journey of Dainampalli Praveen Kumar

Mulugu:
The journey of Dainampalli Praveen Kumar, who grew up in a small village and later secured a rank in the Civil Services examination, is drawing attention among young people.
Praveen Kumar was born in Eturnagaram village of Mulugu district in Telangana. He lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his grandmother, who worked as a sanitation worker. Despite financial difficulties, he continued his education with determination.
His grandmother supported the family through daily wage work and encouraged him to focus on studies. Praveen often recalls her words: “Study well, otherwise you will end up as a labourer.” He says those words stayed with him and pushed him to continue studying.
During his student days, Praveen also worked as a paper boy and did labour work to support his family while continuing his education.
He cleared the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) Group-1 examination and secured the 105th rank, after which he was selected as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and began training.
While undergoing DSP training, he continued preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. He received coaching at the Telangana SC Study Circle in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, and followed a disciplined study routine.
In the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025, Praveen Kumar secured the 793rd All India Rank.
Praveen says he was inspired by senior IAS officer S. R. Sankaran, who worked for the welfare of poor and marginalised communities. He decided to enter civil services with the aim of serving people from weaker sections.
Sharing advice for civil services aspirants, Praveen said candidates should make proper use of coaching facilities, study in groups, and regularly read both current affairs and static subjects. He also suggested analysing previous years’ question papers and maintaining a daily study schedule of eight to ten hours.
Praveen said students should not stop their efforts because of difficulties. “Problems will come in life, but if we continue working towards our goal, success is possible,” he said.
His journey from a small village to the civil services has become an example for many students, especially those from rural and economically weaker backgrounds. Many people have expressed hope that he will continue to serve the country in the future.
